Since I last chatted with all of you I have been fortunate to have been selected as the exclusive artist for a brand new International Gateway at Lake Tahoe. This is the resort destination’s first large public art project that, come next fall 2012, will showcase life-sized animals (including this Bobcat I’ve just completed; pictured on the left) within a large traffic Roundabout. The selection process included talent who applied for the contract from all over the west so as you can imagine, I’m truly honored to hold the torch for what will inevitably be quite the welcome mat for the three-million visitors who pass through this particular intersection on an annual basis. You can read the whole story here in an article that surfaced this past summer. I’ll continue to fill you in on my progress as the Bobcat, a five-foot brown bear, and his furry friends start to come to life!
FUND RAISING UNDERWAY … In the mean time, if you have friends who have an interest in supporting public art, we are continuing our fund raising efforts to cover the supplies and installation. I am personally donating all of my time as I feel this will certainly be a legacy for our entire community to enjoy for MANY years to come. For information on how one can donate, please contact Don Kanare, our committee fundraising chairman via email at: don@insideincline.com or call Jim Nowlin at 775 831 1730.
